postheadericon Horror Art and Stuff

Isn’t that my slogan?  It was at one time if not anymore.   In any case this is a lovely and short promo video I did a while ago and I thought it might be fun to include it on the site.

It’s pretty Creepy-heavy but there is a Lenore panel snuck in at the end. I will do longer and better ones very soon to capture the growing diversity of the site.  And to lead up to the new video reviews section we will be adding.

Enjoy…

postheadericon Bernie Wrightson, Creepy and the Wardrobe

Hello kiddies.  Welcome back to the nasty place.  After all this time, you may have been expecting this to be a review of Dark Horse’s Creepy issue number three.  I’m going to disappoint you on that count, because this is going to be a review of Bernie Wrightson’s The Ghoul.  The copy I’m holding in my hand is The Ghoul number two, published January of 2009 first printing.

The credits in the magazine lists the writing by Steve Niles.  The art by Bernie Wrightson.  The coloring by Tom Smith the lettering by Robbie Robbins, and the whole thing was edited by Tom Waltz.

Looking through the magazine the art is, of course, superb.  It is after all, Bernie Wrightson.  It’s colored by Tom Smith, which throws it off a little bit, because Tom Smith uses a different color styling than Bernie would choose I’m sure.  But it’s still good.  In the middle of the magazine there is a four-page spread of pure prose.  In other words, a short story.  This was common practice  in comic books many years ago, but the newer ones very rarely do it.  So it’s refreshing.  After that middle section,  there is a lovely ad for something else Wrightson also worked on Cold Dead, She Said.

I’ll have to look for that, because I do tend to try to get everything Bernie Wrightson has anything to do with as I consider him to be a personal God.  All in all it’s definitely a nice comic, a lovely set of stories.  I’m not telling you anything about the story, because it’s ongoing, and it really needs to be experienced personally.  Due to the fact that it is, in fact, called The Ghoul and is written by Bernie Wrightson, or at least drawn by Bernie Wrightson, and I am writing about it on a horror blog, you can assume it is a horror comic.  It’s published by ID W as a limited run.  I’m not sure how many issues there are  supposed to be altogether.  But like I said, I have issued two.  It contains an announcement for issue number three, and I think the guy at the comic book store said there were four.  Once I have them I’ll do a proper review of the whole thing including the story arc.  But in the meantime, I would recommend you get hold of this thing if you possibly can.

Thank you so much for reading.  I’m really glad to be back. It’s been a long time, I know and I really did want to get to Creepy, issue three, but things come up.  There is now a 90% chance* that the next post on this blog will be an in-depth review of Creepy number three.  And I swear to you, I will try as best I can to be objective about it.  It’s hard for me to do that because of my  strong emotional attachment to the original.  But I believe I owe it to you to be as fair as I can be.  That doesn’t mean I’ll succeed.

Thank you so much for reading the blog.  I don’t know if you know this, but last month was a record-setting month for number of hits on the blog.  The thing I’d really like to see now is for people to leave comments if you have any opinions on this piece.  Please leave comments below, if you want to talk to me.  You can get a hold of me through the comments.  If you want to ask me something, if there’s things you’d like to see here that I haven’t covered, tell me in the comments.  I’ll be happy to talk to you.  That’s what I’m here for.  Okay kiddies shows over nothing more to see here.  Please go about your business, provided your business is writing comments.

So Long and thanks for all the Fish.
