Trailers Are Evil
This is an update on a couple of posts that I had done fairly recently.
In them I had expressed some hope that maybe some nice shiny new movies were coming out, that maybe didn’t completely blow. (As most movies do these days)
Well.. turns out. Nope.
The jury is still out on the Joker movie, but the people have spoken in relation to the new Hellboy movie. The general consensus is that sucks beyond human understanding.
Now, in fairness, I knew that I was going out on a limb when I looked forward to it. I mean, after all, why would you reboot a series that was so recent? I mean, all the original people were interested in doing another one. WTF? Right?
This is maybe almost as stupid as whatever the fuck Disney did with Hocus Pocus. They had a legitimate claim on a valuable and beloved property, but instead of exploiting that existing audience, they thought it would be better business to pee on them. (See how I paraphrased Bette Midler from a different movie? I’m so fucking clever.)
This seems to be the new way of doing entertainment. Fuck the fans at every turn.
Don’t even get me started on fucking Westworld! (Wait till the third season comes out. I will probably have opinions, and be willing to share them with Y’all at that time.)
Back to the point…
Hellboy has been labeled by critics as already maybe the worst movie of the year.
I’m disturbed. The trailer made it look so good.
Of course, the trailer didn’t explain all the in-fighting that was going on between the producer and the director. I blame the producer.
Anytime that producers are at odds with directors, shit results. Always. (I could put a list of movies here, but I mercifully will not. Maybe another post sometime.)
Here’s my suggestion. If you are the producer, and you want to second guess, or undermine the director’s choices…. fire that person and direct the film yourself.
Kubrik did it all the time. (Directed and produced) And his films are awesome. (Except one. But that may just be me. Everyone else seems to think it’s great. And, no, I won’t say which one.)
I’m sorry for being so cranky today, but I am so disappointed. It could have been good. sigh…
So now I need to preemptively say that the growing opinion of the new Joker film, is not good. Everyone seems to think it will suck I don’t know. But my common sense tells me that it really will suck. And hard.
It would be nice if that didn’t happen, but who knows at this point? Certainly not me.
So, there were three trailers that got my hopes up. Joker, Hellboy, and the new Child’s play movie, whatever it’s called.
Trailers are evil. They can and do lead you to believing that movies will be way better than they turn out to be.
I mean, that’s their whole reason for existence. To sell films. I get that. But you’d think that if Hollywood wants to continue sucking the bucks out of the public, maybe they should actually deliver the goods OCCASIONALLY!?
That’s all for today, kiddies.
